The New Sun, published in 1943 under the name Taro Yashima, was a 310-page autobiographical picture book for adults, about life in pre-war,statist Sh wa Japan. Taro Yashima (1908 1994) was the pseudonym of Atsushi Iwamatsua Japanese artist who lived in the United States during World War II. Momo wanted the rain to come so she could use her new birthday umbrella and her beautiful red rubber boots."A lovely, collectible copy of this charming tale. With the original price of $3.00 at the top of the inside front flap."The year Momo had her third birthday the sunny Indian summer weather stayed for too long. With light wear to the top and bottom of the spine ends and a touch of wear at the corners. In a charming dust jacket featuring Momo looking at her birthday umbrella. Inscribed in blue ink: To: Nancy Edwards with Best Wishes-Taro Yashima, 1964." Also with his signature and chop mark. Inscribed by the artist and with his drawings of a child (Momo) and a yellow butterfly. With previous owner's book plate on the front paste-down. Splendidly bound in finely woven blue-green cloth stamped in yellow on the front boards and on the spine.
